WEEK 17  3 May- 7 May

This week in economics we learned about some fun, interesting things. We learned about the Game Theory and learned more about credit. We learned a little more about making choices as well. The game theory was a very interesting lesson, because it makes you really think outside the box. I never realized how useful game theory could be in regular life everyday. That its really all about knowing your opponent to win or to get what it is you want. Sometimes as well, not explaining all the rules. Game theory is used a lot, like in Mr. Martinez’ example The Dark Knight. This week I just found a lot of interest in Game theory and how it can be used in an everyday life.

My questions that I have are can Game Theory hurt the economy? Well clearly yes it can, but like how can Game Theory hurt the government?

This week I looked at Laura Roberts blog. First must I say Laura’s blog is just so nice, I like her set up and just her blog all together. I have known Laura for a while and I respect her so much, and might I say what she wrote about Nicole was beautiful. Laura has such a beautiful personality and is so nice; but about economics, her questions are good.

Mr. Martinez’ Question

I think that this blog thing was a good idea. It honestly kind of makes you do your work. It also keeps you knowing more of what it is that your learning. I did enjoy it when I actually got to do my work. I think its a cool thing to express your opinion and ask questions that maybe your afraid of asking in the class. I don’t really have anything that can be different. The blog though was a nice experience and I think that the kids in the future will really enjoy it.

Current Event #5 Economic Indicators

May 1, 2010

The  Newspaper article More Colorado Children Living in Poverty explains how Colorado has the largest number of kids growing up under poverty. The article discusses what it is that all these kids have to go through, that they necessarily don’t know in which there going through. It’s such an interesting article because it really shows how growing up in poverty could really affect a child. It’s also interesting that Colorado is the largest number of children growing up in poverty because it just does not seem that way. The article explains all of the likely hood in which a kid would be in poverty or anybody for that matter. This article makes  one take a step and look back at what you have and then opens up the eyes of what is really happening. Especially it opens up your eyes of things happening in your own back yard.

This article brings up the main concept of poverty, which is a big economic indicator. There is some of the unemployment, but it mainly discusses poverty. At that the main topic is children Colorado poverty. Karen Auge states in this article, “An estimated 191,725 children are living below the line”(Auge). The article explains the heavy burden brought onto the young children and explains the economic concepts of poverty. The way that economist explain poverty is the same way in which this article shows the likely hood of being a child in poverty. Some examples are some such being a minority, growing up with a single mother, and being a young woman with a child.

In the future, I do see the poverty going down more. Like the cycle though we are experiencing more of a contraction and when we hit the Trough, and the expansion then I think the poverty will go down more. Right now though, I think that poverty will go up just a little more, and then start decreasing and getting better. Since though the cycle never stops we will hit this issue again, but maybe not for a little while.

Current Event #3- Supply and Demand

March 26, 2010

The Newspaper Article Developers building affordable apartments in Denver explains how these two men Charlie Wooley and Greg Glade are building  50 affordable appartments. They are building these apartments in Denver’s Westwood neighborhood. The article explains how the apartments will be made available to the people earning 40 and 50 percent of the area’s median income. These two men are really working towards the demand of the people and the supply of the land.

This article has everything to do with supply and demand. The two men planned building these apartments in area were it could be very highly demanded. Tasha Weaver, a manager of the tax-credit allocation department states, ” The project is in a very strong market where there appears to be a very strong demand.” These two gentlemen are working to the demand of the community by reaching out to people that don’t have that high of an income and where it is very affordable for them. The supply side of it is that they are only building a certain amount, which is 50. Since there are only 50 affordable appartments being built the demand of the apartments can also go up just a little bit, because they still have to be affordable.

In the future with these apartments the demand or the supply will increase or could even possibly decrease. The supply will probably increase because there are not as many at the moment and if they build more the people will still be happy and the demand will not decrease. Where as the if they stop at exactly 50 the demand could possibly increase because of the limited numbers. But also in mind, that they have built these apartments for the people with a median income. The future of this project is very un predictable, but at either way for now the demand is good and the supply is at a good number right now.
